Matt is passionate about health data science and its potential in generating key insights for public benefit and is committed to promoting more equitable access to these data and approaches globally.

Matt holds a degree in computer science and has over seven years’ experience working in health-data and technology organisations in Australia and the UK.

In his current role as Technical Programme Manager for the Global team at HDR UK, he co-develops sustainable data and governance infrastructures, and supports global research teams with technical solutions and capacity building. He also provides technical product and project management for the International COVID-19 Data Alliance (ICODA) programme.

Recently Matt has gained research experience through a secondment to the University of Bristol Medical School for a project which explored the impact of SARS-COV-2 infection on pregnancy and birth outcomes. This project used routine NHS datasets for research and provided a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in health data science.

Matt is delighted to have been awarded an MSc Scholarship by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) funded in partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK and Diabetes UK. He is excited to be part of the MSc programme at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and looks forward to carrying out a research project in the disease area of diabetes.
